Guidelines

The following are guidelines set by The Faculty of Perioperative Care. Deviation from the guidelines may result not only in delays but in non-acceptance of the submission.

Abstracts submitted for presentation should not exceed 300 words and should be structured as per the following:

  • Posters must be A2 size and portrait orientation. You will be provided with velcro strips on the day to hang your poster on the poster boards.
  • Please ensure that the presenting author is listed first. Then a background, which introduces the topic and the problem(s) being addressed, this should be followed by the aim(s)/objective(s). The patients and methods should be concise and followed by the results; figures and tables will not be accepted. There should be a brief discussion and/or conclusion.
  • The text for all abstract submissions should be in 11pt Arial, left aligned. Authors are asked to refrain from any other formatting eg indentation.
  • All abbreviations used must be described fully in the text once. For example, The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) then referred to as RCSEd.
  • All correspondence will be emailed unless there is course material to be sent out. Please note an up to date email address is required. Please inform us if this changes.

A prize of £50 and an RCSEd quaich will be awarded for the winner of the poster presentation. If your poster is accepted for presentation, you must be in attendance on the day for the poster to be judged.

Certificates

Certificates of attendance (acknowledging your poster presentation) will be awarded on the day of the meeting to the main author/presenter, and only if in attendance. If you nominate a colleague to present your poster or oral on your behalf, they will receive the certificate. Co-Authors can receive a letter confirming their contribution upon request.
