The Faculty of Perioperative Care exists to recognise and acknowledge all perioperative practitioners and the important role they play as part of the extended surgical team.
The FPC Executive Committee work collaboratively to develop and lead on the Faculty’s objectives in supporting the professional development of members through education and training.
Mrs Juliette Murray is Deputy Medical Director for Acute Services at NHS Forth Valley. She trained as a general surgeon with subspecialty interests in breast and paediatric surgery. She previously worked as a consultant in NHS Lanarkshire and was also Deputy Director of Medical Education there as one of her main interests is in teaching and training.
Juliette's interests in service redesign and role extension led to her taking up a post with the Scottish Government as clinical lead of the Access Collaborative in 2017. Juliette became the Faculty of Perioperative Care Lead in 2022.
Professor Angus Watson is the Clinical Chair of Surgery at the University of Aberdeen. He is an Honorary Consultant Surgeon at NHS Highland. He is also an elected member of council at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and a Clinical Advisor to the Centre for Sustainable Delivery.
Angus trained in Manchester, Scotland and New Zealand before being appointed as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary in 2005. He also has a doctorate from the University of St Andrews.
He chairs the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh’s (RCSEd) Research Committee and its Global Surgery Foundation. His innovations include the Scottish Surgical Boot Camp and he is the instigator and Clinical Lead of the NHS Scotland Colon Capsule programme (ScotCap). Angus has over 230 peer reviewed publications, book chapters and conference papers and has delivered healthcare across the globe, most recently in Ukraine along with UK-Med.
Ms Claire Edwards is a Consultant Hand and Trauma Surgeon at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital since 2010. She is Chair of the Trauma and Orthopaedics Surgical Specialty Board and sits on the Research and Awards Committee of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Claire is Director of Core Surgical Education for HEEoE, a member of the Trauma and Orthopaedics ST3 National Selection Design Group, and is active in research.
Colonel Alistair Mountain trained at the University of Birmingham Medical School from 1987-1994. He commenced his surgical training at the Royal Hospital Haslar in 1998 and his higher training took place in the Northern training program in the NE of England.
He gained the FRCS Ed (T&O) in 2009 and on award of CCT, he was appointed as a consultant at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine at QE UHB in 2010. He has an active passionate interest in non-technical skills and CRM within trauma teams.
Alistair has been the National Clinical Director of the European Trauma Course since 2015 and is the current International Chair of the ETCO Course Management Committee. He is also a military Regional Surgical Adviser for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Professor Timothy Graham is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Senior Lecturer in Clinical Surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, University of Birmingham and Royal Centre for Defence Medicine UK and a Civilian Consultant Cardiac Surgeon to the British Army.
He’s a joint founder of the National Birmingham Review course in Cardiothoracic surgery and the National Birmingham Professional Development Course. He’s also a joint founder and convenor of the Asian Cardiothoracic Surgery Specialty Update Course (ACSSUC).
Timothy received Honorary Fellowship of Indian Association of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons in 2011 and the Distinguished Surgeon Award from Academy of Medicine Singapore in 2013.
Mr Majid Mukadam MBE joined RSCEd SASLC in May 2016 and is also member of the Cardiothoracic Surgical Specialty Board. He has been the SAS lead at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust since 2011.
Majid has a keen interest in teaching and training and completed a PGCE in Health Education from the University of Birmingham and is a GMC accredited Clinical Supervisor and an Appraiser for the Trust.
His qualifications include MCh(CVTS) from India and FRCS(C-Th) from the United Kingdom. He works as an Associate Specialist in Cardiothoracic Transplantation and leads the Cardiothoracic Retrieval Service at the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham. He was recently awarded an MBE by Her Late Majesty the Queen for his services to transplant patients. His vision is to increase representation of SAS doctors to examination boards.
